الْمُذِيْعُ: أَحْسَنَ اللهُ إِلَيْكُمْ، سَائِلٌ يَقُوْلُ: هَلْ سَمَاعُ الْأَشْرِطَةِ يُغْنِيْ عَنْ حُضُوْرِ الدُّرُوْسِ لَدَى الْعُلَمَاءِ؟
الشَّيْخُ الْفَوْزَانُ: لَا يَكْفِيْ سَمَاعُ الشَّرِيْطِ عَنْ حُضُوْرِ الْمُحَاضَرَاتِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ فِيْهِ فَائِدَةٌ، لَكِنْ لَا يَكْفِيْ. كَوْنُكَ تَحْضُرُ أَمَامَ الْمُدَرِّسِ وَأَمَامَ الْمُحَاضِرِ وَتُشَاهِدُهُ، يَكُوْنُ هٰذَا أَدْعَى إِلٰى الِْاسْتِفَادَةِ، لِأَنَّكَ حِيْنَمَا تَرَى الْمُتَكَلِّمَ يَكُوْنُ انْتِبَاهُكَ لَهُ أَشَدَّ مِنْ سَمَاعِ الشَّرِيْطِ، وَتَكُوْنُ أَيْضًا مُشَارِكًا فِيْ الْأَجْرِ الَّذِيْ وَعَدَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِحُضُوْرِ مَجَالِسِ الْعِلْمِ: “مَا اجْتَمَعَ قَوْمٌ فِيْ بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوْتِ اللهِ، يَتْلُوْنَ كِتَابَ اللهِ، وَيَتَدَارَسُوْنَهُ بَيْنَهُمْ، إِلَّا نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّكِيْنَةُ، وَغَشِيَتْهُمُ الرَّحْمَةُ، وَحَفَّتْهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ، وَذَكَرَهُمُ اللهُ فِيْمَنْ عِنْدَهُ.” هٰذَا مَا قَالَهُ الرَّسُوْلُ ﷺ فِيْ هٰذَا الْمَوْضُوْعِ، فَأَنْتَ تَحْصُلُ عَلٰى أَجْرِ الْحُضُوْرِ زِيَادَةً عَلَى الْعِلْمِ الَّذِيْ تَسْتَفِيْدُهُ، بِخِلَافِ الشَّرِيْطِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَفْقِدُ أَجْرَ الْحُضُوْرِ. نَعَمْ.
Host: May Allāh grant you goodness. A listener asks: Does listening to recorded lectures suffice in place of attending lessons with scholars?
Shaykh Al-Fawzān: Listening to recorded lectures does not suffice in place of attending lessons, even though it has some benefit, it is not sufficient. Being present in front of the teacher or lecturer and seeing him directly is more conducive to learning, because when you see the speaker, your attention to him is much greater than when merely listening to a recording. Additionally, you will share in the reward that the Prophet ﷺ promised for attending gatherings of knowledge. He said: “No group of people gathers in one of the houses of Allāh, reciting the Book of Allāh and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelops them, the angels surround them, and Allāh makes mention of them amongst those who are with Him.”[1] This is what the Prophet ﷺ said on this matter. So, (by attending in person,) you gain the reward of being present in addition to the knowledge you acquire, unlike (merely listening to) a recording, for (in that case) you miss out on the reward of attending in person (in the gatherings of knowledge). Yes
